About Us
Friends of the Homeless: Who We Are
Established in response to one of the least talked about problems faced by many individuals and families in the area — homelessness.
A Hand-Up, Not a Hand-Out.

Founded in 2005, Friends of the Homeless is currently the area’s only homeless shelter. From expanding staff to providing a wide range of self-improvement opportunities, we have provided over 100,000 bed nights to those in need.
Beyond emergency shelter, we provide the tools and services residents need to find and retain employment and stable housing — linking residents with service agencies and offering on-site life- and employment-skills programs, support groups, spiritual enrichment, and Bible studies. We work with our residents as far as they are willing to work for themselves.
To keep our facility safe, sober, and secure, we perform background checks before intake and random drug and alcohol screens. Residents who may be struggling with substance abuse are asked to disclose it so we can connect them with the right agencies. After intake, residents enroll in a 90-day program, working with a case manager on a success plan and contributing through daily chores, projects, and weekly house meetings.
We also manage the Pathway to Wellness Recovery House, a separate facility serving men building a life of sobriety through a structured six-month to one-year program.
